The movie, which has inflamed the political discourse in the country, had its premiere on May 5. After detecting tensions between the factions, the West Bengali government banned the film on May 8. It will no longer be shown in Tamil Nadu theaters beginning on May 7.
The filmmaker took to Instagram to drop his picture with Douglas and wrote, “My fan moment with the charismatic and legendary @michaelkirkdouglas sir at the Cannes Film Festival 2023.”
Douglas was present when Madhur Bhandarkar, Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Khushbu Sundar, Sara Ali Khan, Guneet Monga, and Vijay Varma inaugurated the Indian Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival 2023. On Thursday in Cannes, the India Pavilion honored Douglas.
At the India Pavilion, Union Minister L. Murugan greeted him. Murugan tweeted, “Delighted to meet legendary Hollywood actor Michael Douglas at the India Pavillion at #CannesFilmFestival2023. I had a wonderful discussion with him on a range of topics, including “Indian movies’ growing reach from local to global.”
Murugan also extended an invitation to Douglas to attend the next International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, which will take place in November of this year. He was also informed about the 54th #IFFI in Goa, India’s largest film festival, he tweeted.
Douglas talked about how much he adores India during the meeting. He claimed to have been to India before and that his wife, the actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, is a “pretty good Bollywood dancer” and that she loves the nation.
