Kris Kolluri, former head of the Gateway Development Commission, has been appointed President and CEO of NJ Transit, replacing Kevin Corbett, who stepped down on December 9. Kolluri, an Indian American, will serve in this role until January 2026, aligning with Governor Phil Murphy’s term.
Kolluri previously oversaw the Gateway tunnel project, a critical infrastructure development between New Jersey and New York, securing a $6.9 billion federal grant for the $16 billion initiative. Prior to his time at the Gateway Development Commission, Kolluri served as New Jersey’s Transportation Commissioner under Governor Jon Corzine, playing a key role in the state’s transportation planning.
As Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation, Kolluri chaired multiple organizations, including NJ Transit, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, and the South Jersey Transportation Authority. He managed over 17,000 employees and oversaw more than $5.6 billion in funds. Kolluri also contributed to the funding strategy for the ARC rail tunnel project, which aimed to connect New Jersey with New York.
Beyond his government roles, Kolluri was the CEO of the Camden Community Partnership and served as the CEO of the Rowan University-Rutgers Camden Board of Governors. He also worked as counsel at Windels Marx Lane and Mittendorf, advising on transportation and economic development issues. Kolluri holds a Bachelor of Science from Rutgers University – Camden and a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University.
