On July 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt homage to the fallen Indian soldiers who gave their lives in the 1999 Kargil conflict. As the nation observed the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, PM Modi reflected on the unmatched bravery and dedication of India’s armed forces, commemorating the country’s decisive victory over Pakistani intruders.
Taking to social media, the Prime Minister shared his message with the nation: “Warm wishes to fellow Indians on Kargil Vijay Diwas. This day reminds us of the unmatched bravery and selfless sacrifice of the brave sons of Bharat who laid down their lives for our nation’s pride. Their devotion and valor will forever inspire future generations. Jai Hind!”
Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed annually on July 26 to honor the triumph of Operation Vijay — the military campaign that successfully drove out enemy forces from strategic positions in the Kargil sector of Ladakh. The operation remains a defining moment in India’s military history.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute to the soldiers on social media. He called Kargil Vijay Diwas “a proud and unforgettable chapter of valor,” recalling how Indian troops forced the enemy into retreat through their grit and determination. He expressed deep gratitude to those who gave their lives for the nation, saying their sacrifices have left an everlasting legacy of courage.
BJP National President J.P. Nadda echoed these sentiments. In his tribute, he emphasized how Operation Vijay not only reclaimed the mountain peaks but also restored the country’s dignity. “Our soldiers raised the Tricolour once again in Kargil with honor, making every Indian proud,” he wrote.
He further added that India would remain eternally grateful to its brave hearts who defended the nation with exceptional courage and safeguarded its sovereignty.
To mark the occasion, memorial events were organized across India, including in the national capital. Special ceremonies were held at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass and other military locations to remember and honor the sacrifices of India’s war heroes.
