Karan Soni, a Delhi-born actor-comedian, is slated to feature in upcoming episodes of ABC Network’s sitcom ‘Abbott Elementary.’ The show’s ongoing third season has already aired five episodes, with Soni also directing episode 6.
Renowned for its stellar cast, the Emmy-winning mockumentary has featured notable cameos in its current season, including appearances by Jalen Hurts, Jason Kelce, and Brandon Graham in the premiere episode. Bradley Cooper recently made a cameo in the episode aired on March 10. According to a Deadline report, future episodes will introduce more familiar faces interacting with students at Philadelphia’s Willard R. Abbott Elementary School.
Soni made his cinematic debut in the 2010 short comedy film ‘Kaka Nirvana’ alongside Rachel Quinn. He gained global recognition for his portrayal of Dopinder in the ‘Deadpool’ films of 2016 and 2018. Additionally, he showcased his talent in the TV series ‘Blunt Talk’ with Patrick Stewart, where he portrayed a news producer role without ethnic stereotyping.
Initially exposed to acting in plays during his time at an international school in Delhi, Soni pursued his passion further upon moving to Los Angeles for business studies at the University of South California. Encouraged by his teachers, he ventured into auditions for television and film roles, securing representation at the age of 19.
Soni’s diverse portfolio includes significant projects such as ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,’ where he voiced the character Pavitr Prabhakar. He is set to reprise his role as Dopinder in the third installment of the ‘Deadpool’ franchise, titled ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ slated for release on July 26, 2024.
Joining Soni in the upcoming episodes of ‘Abbott Elementary’ are Lana Condor, Keegan-Michael Key, Cree Summer, and Tatyana Ali. Season 3, comprising 14 episodes, was greenlit by ABC in November 2023, marking a shorter run compared to the 22 episodes of Season 2.
