The censor board has cleared the much-awaited period drama Emergency, starring Kangana Ranaut, for release in theaters on January 17 of next year.
On Monday, Kangana Ranaut shared the news with her followers on Instagram by unveiling a striking poster from the film that features its pivotal characters.
In her caption, she wrote, “17th January 2025: The epic saga of the nation’s most powerful woman and the moment that altered India’s destiny. #Emergency – Unveils Only in cinemas.”
The late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed the Emergency period in India during the 1970s, setting the backdrop for the film. It aims to delve deep into one of the most controversial and impactful episodes in Indian democracy, offering audiences a gripping narrative.
Emergency is written, directed, and headlined by Kangana Ranaut, marking her second venture as a director after the critically acclaimed Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.
The movie boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including seasoned actors like Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik. Each of these talented performers plays a significant role in bringing the political and personal intricacies of that era to life on screen.
Produced by Zee Studios, Manikarnika Films, and Renu Pitti, Emergency also features a compelling musical score by Sanchit Balhara and G.V. Prakash Kumar. Ritesh Shah crafts the dialogues and screenplay, further enhancing the film’s promise of a rich cinematic experience.
Aside from the professional announcement, Kangana recently took to social media to share moments from her personal life, celebrating the festival of Bhai Dooj with her brothers.
