Indian-American attorney Jaya Badiga, recognized as a certified family law specialist, has been appointed as a Judge in the Sacramento County Superior Court in California, USA. Selected as one of the court’s three new judges, Badiga fills the vacancy left by the retirement of Judge Robert S. Lapham, following an appointment by California Governor Gavin Newsom.
Previously, Badiga served as a Commissioner at the Sacramento County Superior Court from 2022. Born in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, she is the daughter of Badiga Ramakrishna, an industrialist and former Member of Parliament for Machilipatnam Lok Sabha constituency. Badiga pursued her Bachelor’s degree in psychology and political science at Osmania University before relocating to the United States for further education.
Badiga, affiliated with the Democratic Party, served as an Attorney at the California Department of Health Care Services in 2020 and at the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services in 2018. She obtained a Juris Doctor degree from the Santa Clara University School of Law and a Master of Arts degree in International Relations and International Communications from Boston University.
