India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a telephonic conversation with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, discussing the ongoing conflict in West Asia and key developments in the Indo-Pacific region.
Following the discussion, Jaishankar shared that both leaders exchanged assessments on the evolving situation in West Asia, highlighting the importance of continued dialogue amid rising geopolitical tensions. The interaction reflects the growing strategic coordination between India and Australia on global and regional issues.
The talks come against the backdrop of escalating conflict in West Asia, which began after joint military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran. The strikes reportedly targeted key military infrastructure and leadership figures, triggering retaliatory drone and missile attacks by Iran across the region.
Amid the intensifying situation, India has maintained active diplomatic engagement with multiple global partners. In recent days, Jaishankar has interacted with counterparts from several countries, including Russia, Iran, France, and Oman, underscoring India’s efforts to stay closely connected with key stakeholders.
He also held discussions with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, focusing on the broader implications of the conflict. Additionally, Jaishankar met Reem Al Hashimy in New Delhi, where they reviewed recent developments and discussed the welfare of the Indian community in the region.
Earlier, during his visit to Belgium, Jaishankar met Ursula von der Leyen to exchange views on global issues, including the West Asia crisis and the situation in Ukraine. The discussions highlighted India’s proactive diplomatic outreach in addressing global challenges.
The ongoing engagements underline India’s balanced and multi-dimensional foreign policy approach, focusing on dialogue, stability, and cooperation. As tensions persist in West Asia, such diplomatic efforts are seen as crucial in promoting de-escalation and safeguarding regional and global interests.
