External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar represented India at the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meetings held in Niagara, Canada, where he participated in both bilateral and multilateral sessions with global leaders. His engagements covered major themes such as energy security, maritime cooperation, and strategic partnerships with key nations.
During the outreach session on energy security and critical minerals, Jaishankar outlined India’s viewpoint on building resilience and reducing dependency in global supply chains. Sharing his insights on X, he highlighted the importance of predictability, collaboration, and coordinated policymaking to address market disruptions and uncertainties. He also stressed that implementation remains crucial, reaffirming India’s willingness to work closely with international partners to achieve shared energy goals.
In another special session focused on maritime security, Jaishankar emphasized India’s role as a “first responder” in the maritime domain and its ongoing efforts to strengthen Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) partnerships across the Indo-Pacific. He referred to India’s “MAHASAGAR outlook,” which underscores cooperation, port-led growth, and sustainable maritime infrastructure.
He further recommended enhancing trusted and diversified maritime routes, upgrading port infrastructure, and securing critical undersea assets. Jaishankar called for stronger global coordination to tackle piracy, smuggling, and illegal fishing, noting that maritime trade remains vital for both national and global prosperity. He reiterated that the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) must be upheld to ensure safe and lawful maritime operations.
The minister also conducted multiple bilateral discussions. With Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, he exchanged views on the ongoing conflict and Ukraine’s perspective on peace efforts. Meetings with EU High Representative Kaja Kallas and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan focused on deepening strategic ties, connectivity, and regional developments.
In his interaction with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Jaishankar discussed trade, supply chain resilience, and global geopolitical issues, while receiving condolences for the recent Delhi blast. Over two days, Jaishankar also met counterparts from Canada, Mexico, France, Brazil, South Africa, the UK, and Germany—strengthening India’s diplomatic outreach and advancing its strategic agenda at the global stage.
