S. Jaishankar held a “useful talk” with Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Cernay-la-Ville, France.
Sharing details of the interaction, Jaishankar noted that the discussion focused on key global developments and areas of mutual interest. The meeting comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions and evolving global security challenges.
According to the US State Department, Rubio’s engagements at the G7 Ministerial are centred around shared security concerns, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the situation in the Middle East, and broader threats to global peace and stability.
Earlier in the day, Jaishankar addressed the G7 session, highlighting the importance of freedom of navigation for global economic security. He also raised concerns about cross-cutting threats such as narco-terrorism and emphasised the need for stronger international cooperation in critical minerals supply chains.
During the discussions, Jaishankar reiterated the urgency of reforms in the United Nations system, particularly the United Nations Security Council, along with the need to streamline peacekeeping operations and strengthen humanitarian supply chains.
He also drew attention to the concerns of the Global South, including challenges related to energy security, fertiliser availability, and food supply disruptions amid ongoing conflicts.
On connectivity initiatives, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), noting that current geopolitical uncertainties reinforce the need for resilient trade routes and supply chains.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Jaishankar also held a brief interaction with Antonio Tajani, reflecting continued diplomatic engagement with key global partners.
The discussions at the G7 forum underline India’s active role in shaping global dialogue on security, economic resilience, and international cooperation.
