External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with United States National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in New Delhi on Monday to discuss a wide range of bilateral, regional, and global issues. Jaishankar expressed optimism about the ongoing strength of the strategic partnership between India and the US.
In a social media post, Jaishankar welcomed Sullivan to New Delhi, highlighting their comprehensive discussions on various issues. He expressed confidence that the strategic ties between India and the US would continue to strengthen in the coming years.
Sullivan’s visit coincided with the second meeting of the initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET), marking the first official visit by a senior US official since the Modi government began its third term. Originally scheduled for February, the meeting was rescheduled to June due to pressing commitments in the US.
During his visit, Sullivan, accompanied by Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell and other officials, is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Discussions are expected to culminate in a joint statement underscoring progress under the iCET framework and addressing key bilateral issues, including developments in West Asia.
Prior to his arrival in India, Sullivan had announced his direct travel from Switzerland, where he attended a Ukraine peace summit, emphasizing the importance of the iCET initiative. This follows a recent meeting between PM Modi and US President Joe Biden at the G7 Summit, where they reaffirmed their commitment to global cooperation.
Earlier, Biden had congratulated PM Modi on his electoral victory, underscoring their shared vision for a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. Both leaders emphasized deepening the US-India Comprehensive and Global Strategic Partnership, including strategic technology collaboration, as reiterated in statements from the White House.
