External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Finnish President Alexander Stubb in New Delhi and discussed the current state of India-Finland relations as well as opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. The meeting took place ahead of President Stubb’s talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reflected the growing engagement between the two nations.
During the interaction, Jaishankar expressed confidence that the discussions between the Finnish President and the Indian Prime Minister would further strengthen diplomatic ties and open new avenues for collaboration. Both sides acknowledged the importance of deepening cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, technology, innovation and global governance.
President Stubb is in India on a state visit accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers, senior officials and prominent business leaders. The visit is aimed at strengthening the multifaceted partnership between the two countries and exploring new opportunities for economic and strategic collaboration.
As part of his engagements, the Finnish President is participating in the Raisina Dialogue, where he will deliver the keynote address as the Chief Guest. The global forum brings together policymakers, diplomats and experts from across the world to discuss pressing international issues and emerging geopolitical trends.
During the visit, President Stubb is also scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan. These high-level interactions underline the importance both countries attach to expanding bilateral cooperation and strengthening diplomatic engagement.
Following his meetings in the national capital, the Finnish leader will travel to Mumbai where he will interact with Indian business leaders and participate in an India-Finland business event aimed at promoting trade and investment partnerships. He will also address students at the University of Mumbai, highlighting the growing academic and educational cooperation between the two nations.
India and Finland share warm and friendly relations built on shared democratic values, innovation and sustainable development. Finland is considered an important partner for India within the European Union and the Nordic region, and both countries continue to explore ways to deepen their partnership across diplomacy, business, technology and people-to-people exchanges.
