India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar chaired a Consultative Committee meeting in New Delhi focused on strengthening India-Africa relations, highlighting the continent’s growing importance in India’s strategic and diplomatic outreach.
The deliberations covered a wide range of cooperation areas, including trade and investment, Lines of Credit, grants, capacity development, defence collaboration, and engagement in regional and multilateral forums. The discussions reflected India’s comprehensive approach to its partnership with African nations, built on mutual growth and shared priorities.
A strong emphasis was placed on education, skills development, and institutional capacity building—key pillars of India’s long-standing development partnership model with Africa. These initiatives continue to play a vital role in empowering local communities and strengthening governance frameworks across the continent.
The meeting also underscored expanding collaboration in emerging sectors such as supply chains, digital public infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, and maritime security. These areas are increasingly central to India-Africa engagement, reflecting evolving global economic and strategic dynamics.
In his remarks following the meeting, Jaishankar highlighted that such consultations reflect deep-rooted historical and people-to-people ties between India and Africa. These civilisational connections form the foundation of a partnership that is both developmental and forward-looking.
India’s growing footprint in Africa is supported by a range of initiatives, including scholarships, technology partnerships, defence training programmes, and infrastructure development projects. These efforts have reinforced India’s position as a reliable and trusted partner in the region.
The discussions also emphasised the importance of coordination in multilateral platforms, particularly on issues affecting the Global South, such as trade reforms, food security, and climate change. Strengthened collaboration in these areas is expected to enhance collective influence and deliver meaningful outcomes.
As engagement deepens, continued institutional dialogue is likely to boost investment flows, expand trade opportunities, and strengthen strategic cooperation between India and African nations, further consolidating long-term partnerships across the continent.
