External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, accompanied by his wife Kyoko Jaishankar, attended the Europe Day celebrations in Delhi, emphasizing the significance of India-EU ties for global affairs. He expressed optimism about the future growth of this partnership.
As the chief guest at the Europe Day event, Jaishankar highlighted the depth of the relationship between India and the European Union, stressing its importance beyond economic factors. He praised the EU’s role as India’s largest economic partner and acknowledged the multifaceted collaboration across various domains.
During his address, Jaishankar emphasized the need for resilient and reliable supply chains and stronger digital cooperation. He underscored the potential for India-EU collaboration to address global challenges and contribute to the global economy.
Recognizing the European Union’s contribution to initiatives like the India-Middle-East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), Jaishankar expressed India’s commitment to furthering such partnerships. He also welcomed the EU’s growing interest in the Indo-Pacific region and highlighted their constructive engagement in forums like the G20.
European Union Ambassador to India, Herve Delphin, echoed Jaishankar’s sentiments, emphasizing India’s increasing importance for the EU and expressing confidence in deepening the partnership. He underscored the strategic relevance of building a strong EU-India relationship for both parties and the world.
The event marked a significant moment in India-EU relations, following the signing of the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) earlier in the year.
