External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a meeting with Riaz Hamidullah in New Delhi, with discussions focused on advancing bilateral ties between India and Bangladesh.
The interaction underscored the continued engagement between the two countries aimed at strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors. Both sides explored avenues to further deepen diplomatic, economic, and people-to-people relations, reflecting the importance of the partnership in the South Asian region.
The meeting comes amid broader regional cooperation efforts, where India has reiterated its commitment to supporting neighbouring countries based on mutual needs and shared interests. Recent developments have also highlighted India’s role in assisting Bangladesh and other regional partners in meeting energy requirements while balancing domestic priorities.
Officials have indicated that India continues to supply essential resources such as diesel to Bangladesh through various channels, reinforcing its position as a reliable partner. At the same time, evolving geopolitical challenges, including disruptions in global energy supply chains, have prompted careful management of domestic and regional energy demands.
Parallel diplomatic engagements have further reinforced the relationship. India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, has held multiple meetings with senior leaders in Dhaka to expand cooperation in key areas such as rural development, local governance, and grassroots economic empowerment.
These interactions also highlighted the strong historical ties between India and Bangladesh, rooted in shared experiences and cooperation during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Both sides have emphasised the importance of mutual respect and trust in strengthening people-to-people connections.
The latest meeting reflects a continued push to build a forward-looking partnership, with both countries committed to enhancing collaboration across sectors while addressing regional challenges through dialogue and cooperation.
