Among those who congratulated Modi were Nepal’s Prime Minister Pranchanda, Sri Lanka’s President Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Mauritius’ Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth.
The BJP-led NDA is set to form its third successive government following the Lok Sabha election results, which also saw a strong performance from the opposition INDIA bloc, particularly the Congress party. The NDA is projected to win 291 seats, the INDIA bloc 234 seats, and other parties 18 seats. The election was much closer than exit polls had predicted, which had anticipated a sweeping victory for the NDA.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his remarks after the results were mostly in, stated that the BJP-led NDA would indeed form its third successive government. He described the victory as a testament to the resolve for a developed India, the principle of “Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas” (Together with All, Development for All), and the strong faith people have in India’s Constitution.
Modi noted at the party’s central office that this marks the first time since 1962 that a government completing two full terms has won a third consecutive term. He called it a “new history” created after six decades.
