Ishan Sharma, a rising basketball talent originally from India but now residing in Canada, has committed to playing for the University of Virginia in the upcoming season. The 6’5″ shooting guard, highly esteemed in the 2024 class, publicly declared his commitment on social media. This announcement came just one week after he received a scholarship offer from the Cavaliers.
During the Nike EYBL Peach Jam tournament this summer, the Cavaliers’ Coach Tony Bennett and his team took notice of Sharma’s impressive shooting skills. He demonstrated exceptional proficiency in making long-range jumpers, maintaining an outstanding success rate of nearly 45% while playing for UPLAY Canada.
According to information from SI, Sharma had recently visited the University of Virginia, expressing his excitement by sharing, ‘Blessed to receive an offer from the University of Virginia,’ on his social media account on October 16 following the visit.
Sharma also received offers from other schools, including Virginia Tech, a rival institution in the same state, as well as Seton Hall, Arizona State, Rice, Indiana State, Wyoming, Northern Illinois, Marist, Maine, and Eastern Michigan.
Experts in college basketball believe that Sharma’s remarkable shooting abilities could make him an excellent addition to the Cavaliers’ team. This commitment marks Sharma as the second player to join Virginia’s recruiting class of 2024, with four-star forward Jacob Cofie having committed to UVA in September.
