Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi’s pivotal role in investigating JUUL Labs’ involvement in youth vaping is showcased in the Netflix documentary “Big Vape: The Rise And Fall Of JUUL.”
As a dedicated advocate against the youth vaping epidemic since 2019, Krishnamoorthi spearheaded the first Congressional investigation into e-cigarette manufacturers’ deliberate targeting of children. He established the Bipartisan Congressional Caucus To End The Youth Vaping Epidemic and played a crucial part in bipartisan efforts to regulate synthetic nicotine.
In his capacity as Chairman of the Oversight Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy in 2019, Krishnamoorthi initiated the inaugural congressional investigation into the youth vaping epidemic. His intervention in 2020 led to the FDA taking action to remove flavored disposable e-cigarettes from the market.
In March 2022, the bipartisan omnibus spending bill, supported by Congressman Krishnamoorthi, became law, closing the synthetic nicotine loophole and granting the FDA clear authority to regulate the public health impacts of synthetic nicotine.
Krishnamoorthi emphasized the need for the FDA to swiftly complete its review of e-cigarette marketing applications and eliminate menthol and all other flavored e-cigarette products to protect children from the risks of nicotine addiction.
