Dr. Girish Panicker, an Indian American researcher, has been recognized for his exceptional achievements in conservation research by the Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS), which awarded him the prestigious 2023 International Conservation Research Award.
Dr. Panicker currently holds the position of director at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Conservation Research Program and serves as a professor at Alcorn State University in Mississippi. His significant research on C-factor (Cover and Management) technology has been widely utilized by graduate students and environmentalists to combat soil erosion and address climate change challenges.
Among his notable accomplishments, Dr. Panicker conducted experiments with blueberries to prevent lung cancer and coronary heart disease, collaborated with the U.S. government on organic fertilizers, and contributed to muscadine research focused on eliminating breast cancer. Additionally, his investigations into cover crops have yielded valuable insights for erosion prediction, nutrient management, and climate change adaptation.
Throughout his career, Dr. Panicker has earned numerous accolades, including the Pride of India Award and the 2020 Organic Achievement Award from the American Society of Agronomy, among others.
