IndiGo has announced the launch of a daily non-stop flight service between Kolkata and Shanghai, further strengthening air connectivity between India and China.
The new route marks a key milestone in the airline’s international expansion strategy and builds on the recent resumption of services to Guangzhou from both Kolkata and Delhi.
The Kolkata–Shanghai service will be operated using the Airbus A320neo, offering enhanced efficiency and passenger comfort.
With the addition of Shanghai, IndiGo aims to expand travel options for both business and leisure travellers, while supporting growing demand for trade and tourism between the two countries. Passengers from major Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Jaipur, and Bhubaneswar will be able to connect to Shanghai via Kolkata.
According to Vinay Malhotra, the new route will strengthen connectivity and promote business and cultural exchanges between India and China.
The airline now operates 21 weekly flights to mainland China, including services to Guangzhou, reinforcing its presence in the region.
As per the schedule, flight 6E 1709 departs Kolkata at 9:45 PM and arrives in Shanghai at 4:40 AM the next day. The return flight 6E 1710 leaves Shanghai at 5:40 AM and lands in Kolkata at 9:05 AM.
Shares of InterGlobe Aviation were trading at approximately $48.3 on the BSE, reflecting a decline of around 2 per cent from the previous close.
Earlier, IndiGo also announced over 30 new routes from Navi Mumbai International Airport, with plans to operate more than 400 weekly departures, further enhancing domestic and regional connectivity.
The launch of the Kolkata–Shanghai route highlights IndiGo’s continued focus on expanding its global network and strengthening India’s aviation connectivity with key international markets.
