The headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), located in Bahawalpur, Pakistan, has been marked as “Permanently Closed” on Google Maps following India’s high-precision strikes under Operation Sindoor. The site, operating under the name Jamia Masjid Subhan Allah, was one of the nine terror camps targeted by Indian forces in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
Located just around 62 miles from the Indian border, the Bahawalpur facility served as a major hub for training JeM operatives. Post-strike satellite imagery revealed extensive damage to the compound, confirming the scale and accuracy of the airstrike.
The reason for Google Maps labeling the site as “Permanently Closed” stems from its multi-layered data analysis process. Google uses a mix of user reports, business owner updates, and automated systems that track foot traffic, online activity, and third-party data to reflect real-time changes. When many users suggest a closure, or activity data drops sharply, the platform flags the location for review. In this case, the damage from the strike and likely reports from local users or data partners contributed to the designation.
JeM’s Bahawalpur base has long been regarded as a central training center for new recruits and extremist indoctrination. The camp played a strategic role in supporting terrorist operations and was reportedly preparing for future activities. According to Reuters, the compound was evacuated days ahead of the Indian offensive, but Masood Azhar’s family remained. The strike reportedly killed 13 individuals, including 10 of Azhar’s relatives, signaling a direct and devastating blow to the JeM leadership.
India’s swift and targeted response under Operation Sindoor not only dismantled physical infrastructure but also sent a global message about the country’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism. The Bahawalpur strike, and its visible aftermath on platforms like Google Maps, underline both the tactical success and the psychological impact of the operation.
