The seventh edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) was officially opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event spanned three days and took place at the Bharat Mandapam convention center in Pragati Maidan, Delhi, which had previously hosted the G20 Summit in September. Additionally, he unveiled 100 5G labs, distributed among many renowned engineering colleges across the country.
During his address, the Prime Minister emphasized that the future is no longer a distant concept, thanks to technological advancements. He pointed out that in his nine years in office, India’s startup ecosystem has evolved into one of the world’s largest, ranking among the top three globally. India now boasts over one lakh startups, according to Modi.
Reflecting on the introduction of 5G technology in the country, launched on October 1 the previous year, he marveled at the rapid deployment of approximately 5 lakh 5G base stations across India in just one year.
At the event, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the pivotal role of telecom as the ‘gateway’ to Digital India, highlighting that India now exports telecom equipment to more than 70 countries. He also announced that the next edition of the World Telecommunications Standardisation Assembly will be held in the national capital.
Prominent figures like Akash Ambani (Chairperson, Reliance Jio), Sunil Bharti Mittal (Chairperson, Bharti Enterprises), and Kumar Mangalam Birla (Chairperson, Aditya Birla Group) also delivered speeches at the event.
