India now boasts 284 billionaires, with their collective wealth soaring to a remarkable $1.14 trillion, as revealed in the latest report. The ‘Hurun Global Rich List for 2025’ shows that the nation’s wealthiest individuals have experienced a 10 percent growth in their fortunes over the past year. Notably, Mumbai stands out with 90 billionaires.
On the global stage, India continues to maintain a strong presence, ranking third in terms of the number of billionaires, trailing only behind the United States and China. The United States holds the top spot with a staggering 870 billionaires.
The Hurun report further notes that 175 Indian billionaires have seen their wealth increase, while 109 either experienced a decline or saw no change in their financial standing.
The average wealth of an Indian billionaire has now reached approximately $402 million. In addition, India is home to seven billionaires under the age of 40, most of whom hail from the cities of Bengaluru and Mumbai.
Globally, the report highlights that Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has recorded the largest wealth surge, gaining $189 billion over the past year. Musk retained his position as the world’s richest person for the fourth time in five years and became the first individual to cross the $400 billion threshold.
Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos came in second place with a net worth of $266 billion. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg secured the third spot for the first time, boosted by strong investor confidence in Meta’s advancements in artificial intelligence and technology.
This year’s Hurun list also featured prominent figures from entertainment, sports, and social media. Among the notable names were singers Jay-Z, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Paul McCartney.
In the world of sports, several high-profile athletes made it into the billionaire club, including Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Floyd Mayweather, LeBron James, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi. Kim Kardashian was the only influencer to make the global rankings.
