Indian women from the Tri-Service are representing the nation at the World Defence Show (WDS) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, demonstrating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of empowering women across sectors.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced that Squadron Leader Bhawana Kanth, Colonel Ponung Doming, and Lieutenant Commander Annu Prakash are showcasing India’s military prowess and capabilities at WDS 2024, particularly in events focused on International Women in Defence.
Squadron Leader Bhawana Kanth, a trailblazing fighter pilot, shared her journey and insights on leadership at the seminar ‘International Women in Defence – Investing in an Inclusive Future,’ gaining admiration for her achievements, including participating in prestigious national events like the Republic Day Parade and Flypast.
Colonel Ponung Doming, the first woman to command the world’s highest Border Task Force, brings over two decades of service experience and engineering expertise to her role, showcasing Indian Army’s commitment to excellence.
Lieutenant Commander Annu Prakash, specializing in maritime security, highlights the critical role women play in safeguarding India’s coastlines and fostering regional stability, fostering stronger ties between India and other nations.
Their participation at WDS 2024 signifies the increasing prominence of Indian women in the defence sector, inspiring future generations. They will share their inspiring stories with 600 school children, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and leadership.
WDS 2024, ongoing since February 4, concludes on Thursday, serving as a platform to showcase India’s diverse talents and leadership skills in defence, setting an example for women worldwide.
