On July 29, 2025, Indian Ambassador to Egypt Suresh Reddy hosted India’s Under-17 squash team in Cairo during their participation at the World Junior Squash Championships. This prestigious event, held at the Black Ball Sporting Club from July 27 to August 1, has gathered 38 teams from 22 nations.
The Indian delegation includes four male and four female players. Among them, 17-year-old Anahat Singh stood out by clinching a bronze medal in the individual women’s singles category. Her win marks a milestone—India’s first medal in the junior squash worlds since 2010, when Dipika Pallikal last secured one.
The Indian women’s team, now vying in Group B, features Anahat Singh, Anika Dubey, Unnati Tripathi, and Navya Sundararajan. They’re up against teams from Hong Kong, Brazil, and Ireland. Meanwhile, the men’s team—comprising U-17 Asian champion Aryaveer Dewan, Arihant KS, Yusha Nafees, and Sandhesh PR—competes in Group E with Germany, South Africa, and Japan.
The Embassy of India in Cairo shared the celebration on social media, commending Anahat’s achievement and highlighting the excitement surrounding the squad’s participation. While India has yet to clinch a team title in the World Junior Squash Team Championships, hopes remain high with this new generation of athletes showing promise on the global stage.
This event gains additional attention as squash is set to make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, opening a new chapter for the sport and offering more opportunities for young Indian players in the international arena.
