As Mahakumbh Mela 2025 begins on January 13, Indian Railways has implemented extensive measures to manage the travel needs of 450 million devotees heading to Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Over 10,000 trains, including 3,300 special services, have been planned for the mega religious event, which concludes on February 26.
To accommodate the massive crowds, color-coded waiting and holding areas for unreserved passengers have been set up at major stations. Security arrangements include systematic queue management led by Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) officers. The commercial department has also deployed numerous Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) to assist passengers during their journeys.
Indian Railways is prioritizing accessibility with multilingual announcements in over 12 languages and a comprehensive information booklet available in 22 languages. Additionally, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has established a temporary “tent city” in Prayagraj to provide accommodations for travelers.
Health and safety services include 24/7 medical booths and small hospitals staffed with trained professionals at key stations. Ambulances have been strategically positioned, and emergency plans have been coordinated with local hospitals and government agencies.
With enhanced facilities and meticulous planning, Indian Railways is committed to ensuring a safe, efficient, and seamless experience for the millions of devotees traveling to celebrate Mahakumbh Mela 2025.
