Indian-origin stand-up comedian Neel Nanda, hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, has passed away at 32. The exact date and cause of death remain undisclosed at the request of his family and girlfriend. His longtime manager Greg Weiss confirmed the news, expressing deep shock and sorrow, describing Nanda as not only a talented comic but a remarkable person with a promising future.
Nanda’s busy gig schedule for January and February 2024 was abruptly halted. His final performances occurred at the Jokers Theatre and Comedy Club in Toronto on December 15 and 16, coinciding with his birthday weekend. Having relocated to Los Angeles in 2013, Nanda gained prominence not only through live performances nationwide but also in streaming and network shows. He showcased his stand-up on Comedy Central’s Stand-Up Presents in early 2023 and appeared on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel LIVE, CC’s Adam Devine’s House Party, MTV, IFC’s Garfunkel and Oates Show, and Amazon Prime’s Inside Joke. His stand-up act featured on Hulu’s Coming to the Stage and Viceland’s Flophouse.
Nanda’s Los Angeles show, Unnecessary Evil, earned recognition as one of LA Weekly’s top 10 stand-up shows. Fellow comedian Matt Rife paid tribute, highlighting Nanda’s kindness and hard work, expressing a hope for him to find peace.
