Bianca Jain, a ninth-grade student of Indian origin, secured victory in the Congressional App Challenge within New York’s 17th Congressional District. The Briarcliff High School freshman developed an app aimed at raising awareness about cancer causes, driven by a personal connection to the ailment.
Motivated by limited awareness about cancer despite its status as a leading cause of death, Jain set out to dispel the notion that genetics play a predominant role. Her app includes a questionnaire allowing users to assess their risk based on lifestyle and background. Jain’s research and app earned her recognition in the Congressional App Challenge, emphasizing prevention and social awareness.
Jain’s father expressed pride in her dual achievement of learning about cancer prevention and creating social awareness, calling it a “win-win.” Representative Mike Lawler presented the award at Briarcliff High, surprising Jain, who expressed gratitude and joy for the unexpected honor.
The Consulate General of India’s office in New York extended congratulations to Jain for her achievement in the Congressional App Challenge. Rep. Lawler also invited Jain to the upcoming award ceremony at the New York State Capitol in April 2024.
