On January 26, Indian diplomatic missions across the world commemorated the 77th Republic Day with grand celebrations, reflecting India’s rich cultural heritage and the democratic principles enshrined in its Constitution. The day, which marks the formal adoption of the Constitution in 1950, was observed with flag hoisting, patriotic performances, and the reading of President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the nation.
In Wellington, New Zealand, High Commissioner Neeta Bhushan led the celebrations by unfurling the national flag and singing the National Anthem, followed by the reading of President Murmu’s Republic Day message. The event featured vibrant cultural performances, including a dance drama on Operation Sindoor, engaging both the Indian diaspora and local dignitaries. The milestone of 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram was commemorated through a mass rendition involving students, community members, and officials of the Indian High Commission.
In Singapore, High Commissioner Shilpak Ambule presided over the flag hoisting ceremony at the Indian High Commission, while in Japan, Ambassador Nagma Mallick led the celebrations at the Embassy of India in Tokyo, including the National Anthem and the President’s address.
Timor Leste witnessed a spirited Republic Day celebration in Dili, where Ambassador Madan Kumar Ghildiyal unfurled the flag and read President Murmu’s message. The program concluded with a heartfelt rendition of Vande Mataram by members of the Indian community. Similarly, in Papua New Guinea, High Commissioner Rajeev Kumar hoisted the national flag at the Indian High Commission in Port Moresby and shared the President’s address with the local Indian diaspora.
In Qatar, both the Embassy of India in Doha and the Embassy Residence were illuminated in the vibrant colours of the national flag, reflecting the festive spirit of Republic Day.
Across these global missions, the celebrations served not only as a tribute to India’s constitutional journey and democratic values but also as a showcase of the country’s cultural diversity, unity, and strong connections with the Indian diaspora worldwide.
