Indian diplomatic missions across the world observed World Meditation Day, emphasising the timeless relevance of meditation in fostering inner peace, emotional well-being and social harmony.
In 2024, the United Nations General Assembly designated December 21 as World Meditation Day, recognising the importance of mindfulness and inner harmony in human life.
Marking the occasion in Ghana, the Indian High Commission in Accra organised a unified meditation session at its Chancery, reaffirming the role of meditation in promoting physical and mental well-being. The event, organised in collaboration with the Art of Living, brought participants together in a shared moment of stillness and reflection.
“Celebrating World Meditation Day for the second consecutive year, the event highlighted our collective responsibility to focus on what unites us and to foster peace, balance and harmony in our lives and communities,” the Indian High Commission in Accra said in a post on X.
In Guyana, the Indian High Commission and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre in Georgetown, in association with Brahma Kumaris Guyana, hosted a meditation programme highlighting the emotional, mental and physical benefits of the practice. The event was attended by members of the Indian community and meditation enthusiasts, with a guided session conducted by Sister Kinnari of Brahma Kumaris.
Indian High Commissioner to Guyana, Amit Telang, underscored the importance of meditation in promoting global peace and harmony during the programme.
Meanwhile, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Indian Embassy, in collaboration with the Kinshasa Sky Yoga Centre, organised a meditation session at the Congo Hindu Mandal Temple in Kinshasa. The session was conducted by Lakshmi Chidambaram, a meditation instructor from the Kinshasa Sky Yoga Centre.
Addressing the gathering, Chidambaram spoke about the purpose of meditation, explained various forms of yoga, and highlighted how meditation contributes to peace, prosperity and happiness in daily life.
Indian Ambassador to Congo, V. Venkataraman, felicitated Chidambaram for hosting the session. Members of the Indian diaspora, diplomatic corps and friends of India participated in the event.
Through these global observances, Indian missions reaffirmed India’s commitment to promoting mindfulness, peace and harmony as shared human values.
