Indian compound archer Aditi Gopichand Swami, in her debut appearance, achieved a remarkable feat by breaking the under-18 world record and securing the top position in the third stage of the Archery World Cup in Medellin, Colombia. Aditi impressed in the compound women’s field during the 72-arrow 50-metre qualification round, scoring an impressive 711 points. Her performance surpassed the previous record of 705 points set by Liko Arreola in May. Aditi’s compatriot, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, and Colombian archer Sara Lopez followed closely behind her. Aditi expressed her joy and surprise at her outstanding performance, emphasizing her age of only 16.
The Indian team had a strong showing overall, with three women ranking among the top six, including Aditi and Jyothi. In the compound women’s team event, the Indian team (consisting of Aditi Swami, Jyothi Vennam, and Parneet Kaur) secured the top seed with a score of 2119, just one point shy of the world record set by Korea the previous week. The Colombian team finished in second place, trailing by nine points. Both teams excelled on the targets located on the far left of the field at the Liga Antioqueana de Tiro con Arco headquarters.
