With great excitement building up across America in anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic visit to the United States this week, Indian Americans organized a “Unity March” to express their affection and extend a warm welcome to the Prime Minister. The march took place not only in Washington but also in 20 major cities throughout the nation, including New York. During the march, the enthusiastic crowd and the Indian American community could be heard chanting “Modi Modi,” “Vande Mataram,” and “Vande America.”
This significant visit by Prime Minister Modi to the United States from June 20th to 24th, upon the invitation of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, has garnered considerable attention from both the public and the U.S. government. President Biden and the First Lady will host a state dinner for Prime Minister Modi on June 22nd. During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will address a joint session of the U.S. Congress for the second time, which is a first, and will engage with various American politicians, influential figures, and members of the Indian diaspora.
According to India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Prime Minister Modi’s state visit to the U.S. will yield significant outcomes and be conducted with the utmost honor.
Ramesh Anam Reddy, an Indian American participant in the Unity March, emphasized the importance of the occasion, stating, “We, the Indian diaspora in Washington D.C., Maryland, and the surrounding cities, have come together to celebrate Unity Day and the joining of Prime Minister Modi and President Biden. This is a significant event and a proud moment for all of us.”
Another Indian American, Raj Bhansali, expressed his support for Prime Minister Modi and the pride felt within the Indian community, stating, “It is wonderful to be here and support Prime Minister Modi. Engaging with our Indian community is a moment of great pride for all of us, as Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the United States is truly historic.”
