The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has extended invitations to four Indian Americans, granting them membership to the esteemed organization comprised of over 10,000 global artists and professionals in the film industry who have played a pivotal role in advancing the arts and sciences of motion pictures.
Among the invitees for the year 2023, which includes a total of 398 individuals, are renowned composer and guitarist Rafiq Bhatia, Netflix executives Bela Bajaria and Girish Balakrishnan, and producer Shivani Rawat.
Rafiq Bhatia is a versatile musician, composer, guitarist, and producer, having released three solo albums titled ‘Yes it Will,’ ‘Strata,’ and ‘Breaking English.’ Bela Bajaria is a highly accomplished businesswoman and media executive who joined Netflix in 2016 and currently serves as the chief content officer, overseeing both scripted and unscripted series.
Girish Balakrishnan is a pioneering figure in real-time graphics and virtual cinematography, driving creative innovation in areas such as virtual production and AI at Netflix. He has contributed to notable projects, including his work on The Lion King. Shivani Rawat, based in New York, is a respected film producer recognized for her work on independent films like Danny Collins and Trumbo. She is the founder and CEO of ShivHans Pictures and has previously held leadership positions at Miramax and HBO Films.
In accordance with the Academy’s guidelines, these individuals have the opportunity to select a branch within the organization that aligns with their professional interests and expertise.
