The Indian American Women Entrepreneurs Association (IAWEA) held its annual “Spring Swing” networking event on May 3, 2023, in Edison, NJ, to support female businesses in the neighborhood.
The event aimed to advance the agenda by discussing the importance of diversity and inclusion in their respective fields of work. It was co-hosted by Ashumi Sanghvi, founder of creative agency MAD Global; Tina Bhojwani, co-founder and CEO of sustainable shoe brand Aera; Shelly Kapoor Collins, partner at Sway Partners; and Shatter Fund Investing.
According to a press release, more than 200 individuals attended the ceremony, including Tammy Snyder Murphy, the First Lady of New Jersey. The First Lady stressed the value of women’s entrepreneurship in her address and promised support for women-owned firms through the state’s economic development agency.
Murphy used recent research to support her claim that women-owned IT companies made 30% more money than their male counterparts. Dr. Nimisha Shukla, the president and founder of IAWEA, met the first lady on the occasion.
Speaking to the group, Shukla stated that despite the COVID-19 epidemic, IAWEA had increased from 10 to 265 members in just four years. She stressed the organization’s mission of giving women entrepreneurs access to tools and networking opportunities to help them expand their enterprises.
