In the context of the upcoming US Presidential elections in November 2024, CNN’s poll has suggested that Indian American Nikki Haley has emerged as a leading contender among Republicans to challenge the incumbent US President, Joe Biden.
The presidential race for 2024 features a dozen Republican leaders, including prominent figures like Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy. Former President Donald Trump currently holds a significant lead among Republican candidates, but recent CNN polls have provided a different perspective.
CNN observed that in hypothetical scenarios, there is no decisive frontrunner when Biden competes against significant GOP rivals. However, there is a noteworthy exception: Biden trails former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.
The CNN poll reflects a divided sentiment among registered voters in the USA. The race appears close, with Trump garnering 47 percent of support and Biden receiving 46 percent. The demographic patterns that shaped the 2020 election remain prominent.
Biden’s standing is relatively even with other Republican contenders, including Ron DeSantis (47 percent each), Mike Pence (46 percent Pence, 44 percent Biden), Tim Scott (46 percent Scott, 44 percent Biden), Vivek Ramaswamy (46 percent Biden, 45 percent Ramaswamy), and Chris Christie (44 percent Christie, 42 percent Biden).
Notably, Nikki Haley stands out as the only GOP candidate to hold a lead over Biden, with 49 percent to Biden’s 43 percent in a hypothetical match between the two, as reported by CNN.
Haley’s support base appears broader among white voters with college degrees, where she commands 51 percent compared to 48 percent or less for other Republicans tested in the poll, according to the news channel.
The Haley campaign welcomed the poll results, asserting that they confirm concerns among both Democrats and Republicans about her potential candidacy. A senior Democratic strategist close to the Biden campaign acknowledged that many are apprehensive about facing Nikki Haley in the election.
