Jay Bhandari, an influential Indian-American leader and president of GOPIO Virginia, has been elected as a national delegate to the Democratic Convention in Chicago. The convention, scheduled from August 19 to August 21, will officially endorse Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s nominee for president.
As the presumptive Democratic candidate for the upcoming presidential election, Joe Biden has endorsed Bhandari’s election. Jay Bhandari secured his position as a national delegate during the state convention in Richmond, Virginia, where he received a majority vote.
Bhandari mentioned that the selection process will be finalized through votes cast by Democratic delegates nationwide. A lifelong member of the party, he serves on the Central Committee of the Virginia Democratic Party.
Holding a Master’s degree in Economics from Devi Ahilya University, Indore in India, Bhandari launched a GOPIO chapter in Virginia in June 2010 under his leadership. He emphasizes the significant contributions of Indian-Americans in fostering strong relationships between India and the USA, promoting economic, social, educational, and cultural progress in both nations.
He noted, “Many people of Indian Origin, including GOPIO Virginia members, hold high positions in the US and are extremely accomplished, demonstrating innovations and leadership in almost every field.”
Jay Bhandari is a well-known leader in the Asian and Indian communities in both India and the United States. He previously served as vice chair and commissioner of the Virginia Public School Authority Board, and has been involved with various social, charitable, and religious organizations.
His extensive career spans more than 25 years in business and industry, during which he has been appointed to several positions by the governments of India and Madhya Pradesh. He is also the former president of the Jain Society of South Florida, a director at Jaina, and a member of the Advisory Board of the Eye Foundation of America.
