An Indian American Democratic fundraiser launched a digital video on Thursday titled “I WILL VOTE FOR KAMALA HARRIS-TIM WALZ,” aimed at mobilizing South Asian voters in key swing states. The video, set to the instrumental score from the movie Animal, features a rendition of AR Rahman’s famous song “Dil Hai Chhota Sa, Chhoti Si Asha” from Roja. It seeks to connect with South Asian communities in states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Wisconsin, Arizona, Nevada, and North Carolina.
Ajay Bhutoria, a National Finance Committee member for the Harris presidential campaign, emphasized the importance of rallying behind Kamala Harris during this critical time. He also revealed plans to release more Bollywood-themed videos to enhance voter turnout for Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz. “The choice is stark between Kamala Harris’ vision for a united future and Trump’s divisive rhetoric,” Bhutoria said, mentioning the efforts of thousands of South Asian volunteers knocking on doors and making calls in support of the campaign.
The video, produced by Ritesh Parikh of Awesome TV and conceptualized by Ajay and Vinita Bhutoria, incorporates messages in several languages including Hindi, Telugu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam, and Urdu. Bhutoria explains that the video aligns with Harris’ message of hope and unity, which deeply resonates with over 5 million Indian Americans. Using Bollywood music, the video aims to energize the community and amplify their voices in this election.
Parikh added, “Bollywood has always had the power to connect people through storytelling, and Kamala Harris represents the joy and hope we all seek. She brings diverse communities together, just like the essence of Bollywood.”
