Prominent Indian Americans, including two Republican presidential contenders, Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy, have expressed strong solidarity with Israel in the face of unprecedented assaults by the Hamas militant group, resulting in a significant loss of life.
On October 7, the Palestinian militant organization Hamas launched a sustained rocket attack in southern Israel, resulting in a tragic toll of over 600 casualties, encompassing both civilians and soldiers. Additionally, more than 1,900 individuals suffered injuries as a result of these attacks.
In response to the rocket barrages by Hamas, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted numerous airstrikes aimed at targeting critical Hamas infrastructure. This conflict has led to a confirmed death toll of approximately 1,000 individuals in both Israel and Gaza, representing the most substantial escalation in decades between these conflicting parties.
Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley conveyed her support for Israel, highlighting the hostility of Hamas and its backers, the Iranian regime, with chants of “Death to Israel, death to America.” She emphasized the need for the United States to stand united with Israel, underscoring the potential for similar threats to America’s security.
Another Indian American Republican candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy, emphasized the crucial lesson for America from the attack on Israel: the importance of not becoming complacent in defending its borders. He pointed out the vulnerability of America’s borders, both Southern and Northern, and drew parallels between the divisions in Israel and those at home.
