IndiaAI, a division under Digital India Corporation, has formed a strategic partnership with Microsoft through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the adoption and development of artificial intelligence (AI) in India. The initiative aims to support the goals of the IndiaAI Mission, enhancing the country’s AI capabilities.
As part of the agreement, Microsoft will assist IndiaAI in training 500,000 people, including students, educators, developers, government officials, and women entrepreneurs, by 2026. This collaboration will also focus on establishing AI Catalysts in Tier II and III cities, helping to develop 100,000 AI innovators and developers through hackathons and a dedicated AI marketplace. Furthermore, Microsoft will introduce AI Productivity Labs in 20 National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs)/NIELIT centers spread across 10 states, offering foundational AI courses to 100,000 students and training 20,000 educators.
The partnership’s objective is to establish India as a global leader in AI, fostering an inclusive and sustainable AI ecosystem. As part of the collaboration, Microsoft’s Founders Hub program will offer benefits, such as Azure credits and mentorship, to up to 1,000 AI startups. Both entities will also work together on creating foundational models for Indic languages, frameworks for responsible AI development, and the establishment of an AI Safety Institute in India.
IndiaAI Mission CEO Abhishek Singh emphasized that the initiative aligns with the mission’s focus on skilling, innovation, and ethical AI development. Microsoft India and South Asia President Puneet Chandok stated that the partnership would democratize access to AI, empowering underserved communities and accelerating India’s transition into an AI-first nation.
