During an event organized by the US India Business Council in the national capital on Tuesday, Eric Garcetti, the United States Ambassador to India, commended the strong ties between New Delhi and Washington. He emphasized the need for both nations to deepen their collaboration in co-development efforts, aiming to set an example for the rest of the world. Garcetti highlighted that the relationship between India and the US goes beyond mere addition, describing it as a multiplicative partnership.
Garcetti underscored the distinction between co-production and co-development while stressing the importance of aligning mutual needs and interests. He urged clarity in terminologies, noting that co-production differs from co-development. He emphasized the significance of identifying areas where India’s requirements intersect with those of the US, envisioning a collaborative approach to swiftly address these needs and potentially serve as a global model.
Drawing parallels to ancient Indian texts, Garcetti referenced the Rig Veda, citing the depiction of conflict and power within its narratives. He emphasized that despite historical connotations, the goal today is not to promote warfare. Garcetti delved into the insights offered by ancient Indian epics like the Mahabharata and Arthashastra, elucidating contrasting perspectives on war.
While acknowledging the portrayal of war in the Mahabharata as a complex endeavor encompassing excitement, duty, and grim realities, Garcetti also highlighted the strategic perspective outlined in the Arthashastra. He noted that the Arthashastra’s conceptualization of war as a political tool predates similar Western theories by over two centuries, emphasizing India’s historical contributions to strategic thought.
