In a decisive counterattack, the Border Security Force (BSF) has eliminated a Pakistani military post and a terrorist launch pad situated in Looni, Sialkot District, opposite the Akhnoor sector. This location had reportedly been used to deploy tube drones aimed at Indian territories.
The BSF disclosed that on May 9, starting around 9 p.m., Pakistani forces initiated unprovoked fire on Indian posts in the Jammu sector. Responding with equal force, Indian personnel caused extensive damage to infrastructure and assets held by Pakistan Rangers across the International Border. According to the BSF statement, the drone launch pad in Sialkot was completely decimated. The agency emphasized its unwavering commitment to safeguarding India’s sovereignty.
In a related operation on Saturday morning, the Indian Army reported that it had successfully intercepted and destroyed several armed drones crossing from Pakistan into the Khasa Cantt region near Amritsar. The swift neutralization reasserted India’s preparedness against aerial threats.
The Army stated that “Pakistan’s intentional use of drones along the western border poses a serious threat to civilian safety and breaches India’s sovereignty,” asserting that these actions will be met with strong retaliation.
The Ministry of Defence also voiced serious concerns over the surge in hostile actions from Pakistan, especially through drone infiltrations and artillery shelling. In a statement, the ministry called these actions “deliberate provocations” and affirmed India’s readiness to respond strongly.
A drone launched from Pakistan on Friday night targeted Ferozepur in Punjab, injuring three members of a local family, one of whom was a woman. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, the victims sustained burn injuries but are being treated. He confirmed that this was the only such incident in the area and that most other drone threats had been neutralized.
Residents in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, especially in Srinagar and Akhnoor, reported hearing loud blasts early Saturday, prompting panic. At the same time, mortar shelling by the Pakistan Army in the Poonch and Rajouri districts led to significant damage to residential structures and other property.
According to the Defence Ministry, drones—some suspected to be weaponized—were sighted at 26 different locations across the International Border and Line of Control, including major points like Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, and Barmer. Efforts to secure and sanitise all affected zones are ongoing.
