Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, met with Fiji’s Minister for Finance, Commerce, and Business Development, Esrom Immanuel, in New Delhi on February 10, 2026. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations, shared priorities, and exploring opportunities for collaboration in digital infrastructure. Margherita highlighted that the discussions covered the full spectrum of India-Fiji relations, emphasizing development partnerships, capacity building, and ongoing digital cooperation initiatives.
This recent engagement follows a series of high-level interactions between the two nations. On February 2, India’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Suneet Mehta, met with Fiji Parliament Speaker Filimone Jitoko to discuss ways to deepen parliamentary and bilateral cooperation. The High Commission noted that the talks reaffirmed strong ties and opened avenues for enhanced collaboration between India and Fiji.
Earlier, on January 27, Suneet Mehta chaired the second meeting of the Project Steering Committee reviewing the Quick Impact Project (QIP) – Tubalevu Ground Water Supply Project, which India supports. This initiative has already commenced on the ground and is expected to provide a reliable water supply to residents of Tubalevu, marking a tangible step in India-Fiji cooperation and nation-building efforts.
Additionally, on January 19, Suneet Mehta met with Minister Esrom Immanuel to explore further avenues of bilateral engagement, including enhancing cooperation in sectors of mutual interest. These discussions highlighted the longstanding relationship between India and Fiji, built on mutual respect, strong cultural connections, and people-to-people ties.
The India-Fiji partnership received a significant boost following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Fiji in November 2014, during which the first meeting of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) was held. Over the years, India has actively supported Fiji in key areas, including capacity building, infrastructure development, and social sector projects, strengthening the overall strategic and developmental partnership.
Through continued dialogue, joint initiatives, and project implementation, India and Fiji are steadily expanding collaboration in development, governance, and technology. Both countries remain committed to leveraging shared expertise, fostering sustainable growth, and enhancing connectivity across sectors, particularly in digital infrastructure and community development programs.
