External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar underscored the importance of solidarity and cooperation while signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to fund four community development projects in the Marshall Islands. He began his address with “Namaskar from Bharat,” emphasizing India’s dedication to supporting these initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and community welfare in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Jaishankar also praised the Marshall Islands for successfully hosting the 10th Micronesian Games and participating in the 10th International Day of Yoga celebrations, highlighting the strong bilateral relations fostered under the Forum of India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC).
Reflecting on the long-standing partnership between the two countries, Jaishankar noted India’s continued efforts to meet commitments made during the third FIPIC summit. These efforts focus on addressing challenges such as climate change, natural disasters, poverty alleviation, and healthcare. He emphasized the significance of the MoU in advancing community development through projects like desalination units and dialysis machines. Outlining India’s priorities in working with Pacific Island nations, he stressed healthcare, infrastructure, renewable energy, and capacity building. Reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening ties with Indo-Pacific partners, he stated, “India is committed to further enhancing our engagement with the Indo-Pacific region.”
