India and Norway are strengthening their strategic partnership through high-level discussions focused on addressing global challenges and expanding cooperation in future-oriented sectors.
The dialogue covered key areas such as climate action, sustainability, digital transformation, maritime industries, tunneling technologies, and Arctic engagement, reflecting a shared vision for long-term collaboration.
The discussions were led by Pooja Kapur, Additional Secretary at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, and Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik from Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, Kravik highlighted India’s growing role as a reliable partner in addressing complex global issues, referencing his participation in the Raisina Dialogue.
Both sides explored opportunities to expand bilateral ties as well as broader India-Nordic cooperation. A key focus area was enhancing trade and investment through the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement, which is expected to unlock economic opportunities worth millions of dollars.
During the visit, Kapur also held discussions with Trine Heimerback at the Prime Minister’s Office, focusing on strengthening diplomatic engagement and deepening cooperation with Nordic countries.
In a separate engagement in Oslo, Sibi George met Ragnhild Sjoner Syrstad to further economic collaboration, particularly in green and blue technology sectors. These areas are expected to attract investments valued in millions of dollars in the coming years.
The growing momentum in India’s global partnerships is also supported by broader economic developments. Earlier this year, Narendra Modi and Ursula von der Leyen announced progress on the India–European Union Free Trade Agreement, marking a significant step toward deeper economic integration.
India and Norway have shared diplomatic relations since 1947, built on common values such as democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. The latest round of discussions underscores a renewed push to elevate this partnership, paving the way for stronger cooperation and expanded economic opportunities in the years ahead.
