The 4th phase of the Norway India Partnership Initiative (NIPI) saw Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra and Deputy Ambassador of Norway Martine Aamdal Bottheim signing documents to extend cooperation in various health schemes. Since its inception in 2006, NIPI has provided support to several Indian states such as Odisha, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, enhancing maternal and child healthcare facilities.
This health initiative, a collaboration between the Governments of India and Norway, builds upon the successes of its previous phases, focusing on Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health. NIPI Phase 3, in alignment with India’s National Health Policy (NHP) 2017 and Sustainable Development Goals, offers strategic and technical assistance to the National Health Mission (NHM). It aims to scale up proven best practices in select districts, foster innovation within the public health system, and disseminate documented interventions across supported states and UT.
Continuing to innovate and enhance quality care at community and facility levels, NIPI remains committed to realizing the goals outlined in India’s National Health Policies. Established in 2006, NIPI strives to reduce maternal, newborn, and child mortality rates through sustainable efforts. Its strategic support to NHM, particularly in Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Jammu and Kashmir, has yielded positive outcomes, leading to the signing of subsequent phases and agreements between both governments.
Phase 3 expands upon the successes of its predecessors, extending its reach to aspirational districts and establishing an innovation hub. By sharing best practices and lessons learned globally, NIPI aims to contribute to the broader discourse on maternal and child health interventions, bolstering efforts to improve healthcare outcomes in India and beyond.
