After the tragic deaths of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, the Government of India has announced a one-day state mourning on Tuesday (May 21) nationwide to honor the departed leaders.
The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that the National flag will be flown at half-mast across the country on all regularly flown buildings, and there will be no official entertainment on the designated day.
The Iranian President met his demise while returning from a visit to Azerbaijan, when his helicopter crashed in Tabriz city. In response to the unfortunate incident, the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi lowered its flag to half-mast.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for President Raisi’s demise, acknowledging his role in strengthening the bilateral relationship between India and Iran. Modi’s message, shared on social media, highlighted Raisi’s contributions and extended sympathies to his family and the Iranian people.
The helicopter carrying Raisi, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, and their delegation crashed in the Dizmar forest in East Azarbaijan Province. Drone footage released by the Red Crescent showed the wreckage, and it was reported that Raisi’s funeral would take place in Tabriz the following day.
