In a groundbreaking performance, the Indian cricket team etched their name into the history books with a commanding 336-run win over England in the second Test of the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The match, held at Birmingham’s Edgbaston Cricket Ground on July 6, marked India’s first-ever win at the iconic venue after nine previous attempts. This victory also made India the first Asian team to win a Test at Edgbaston, leveling the five-match series 1-1.
The Gill-led Indian side rewrote records with an outstanding cumulative total of 1,014 runs — posting 587 in the first innings and 427/6 in the second. It was the first time India breached the 1000-run milestone in Test history. This feat placed them among an elite group, becoming only the sixth team ever to surpass 1000 Test runs in a single match — and only the third to convert it into an outright win.
India’s scoring rate of 4.33 across both innings is the fastest among teams to have crossed the 1000-run mark. Before this, India’s highest match total was 916 against Australia in Sydney back in 2004.
Leading from the front, Shubman Gill delivered a sensational performance, becoming the first cricketer to notch a double century and a 150+ score in the same Test. He hammered 269 in the first innings and followed it up with 161 in the second, amassing a monumental total of 430 runs — the second-highest by any player in a single Test and the best on foreign soil.
The Indian team’s victory not only handed England their biggest-ever defeat at Edgbaston by runs but also showcased India’s readiness to dominate away from home. Their display underlined a blend of aggressive batting, smart captaincy, and historic resilience.
With this win, India not only leveled the series but also cemented their name in the annals of Test cricket glory.
