Ms. Caoimhe Carlos, Vice President of Global Customer Success at Udemy, recently praised India’s leadership in artificial intelligence (AI) upskilling during her visit. She highlighted that 2025 would be a pivotal year for Udemy in India, with plans to hire a head of customer success, expand its research and development (R&D) center, and introduce new AI features. Carlos observed a shift in how employees interact with generative AI (GenAI), from technical training to practical applications aimed at improving productivity.
She highlighted the rising demand for soft skills such as communication and critical thinking, particularly among Gen Z workers who might have missed out on developing these abilities during the pandemic.
India is a standout market for Udemy, with a user base of 16 million as of September 2024. The country ranks first in usage and second globally in terms of overall size. Udemy’s platform connects learners with 75,000 instructors and has nearly 1 billion course enrollments. As part of its strategy, the company plans to further enhance its platform’s capabilities by expanding its R&D center in Chennai, where innovations to improve functionality will be a key focus. Additionally, Udemy is set to launch new AI tools, including an AI learning assistant and AI skills mapping features, while placing a strong emphasis on assessment tools to help learners track their progress.
