India has introduced the Trade Intelligence and Analytics (TIA) Portal, a comprehensive digital platform designed to enhance access to global trade information and deliver advanced analytical tools to businesses of all sizes. Launched by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, the portal represents a major step toward democratizing trade intelligence, especially for MSMEs, startups, exporters, and importers who previously lacked access to such detailed datasets.
Speaking at the launch event, Goyal emphasized that the TIA Portal will enable businesses to identify promising global markets, study tariff structures, maximize the benefits of Free Trade Agreements, and diversify India’s export landscape. He underscored that stronger export activity is crucial for boosting India’s foreign exchange reserves, particularly in a world where tariff policies are constantly shifting. Goyal encouraged industry stakeholders to actively share feedback and challenges so the Ministry can work faster and more efficiently to resolve issues.
Developed by the Department of Commerce as a cost-effective, open-source solution, the platform brings together an extensive range of global and bilateral trade databases into a single integrated system. The TIA Portal features more than 270 dynamic visualizations spread across 28 interactive dashboards, offering insights into trade patterns with over 220 countries. It also provides tools for market diversification, details on critical minerals, macroeconomic trends, Production Linked Incentive (PLI) performance, surge monitoring, and several advanced trade indices such as Revealed Comparative Advantage and Trade Intensity.
One of the portal’s biggest advantages is its automation capability. Previously manual processes—such as compiling the Monthly Trade Report or tracking sudden spikes in imports—have now been replaced with automated workflows that improve accuracy and reduce processing time. The platform’s drill-down features allow users to analyze data at a granular level, making it easier to identify trends, compare markets, and tailor export strategies.
The portal’s intuitive design aims to support both seasoned exporters and small businesses entering global markets for the first time. With its user-friendly dashboards and data-driven insights, the TIA Portal is expected to significantly enhance policymaking, enable smarter business decisions, and strengthen India’s efforts to expand its global trade footprint.
Overall, the launch of the TIA Portal marks a transformative shift in how India approaches trade intelligence, providing businesses with vital tools to compete confidently in global markets.
