India and Japan have reinforced their growing strategic partnership through high-level discussions focused on economic security, artificial intelligence, and cultural cooperation, underscoring the expanding scope of bilateral engagement between the two nations.
India’s Ambassador-designate to Japan, Nagma Mallick, met Japan’s Minister of Economic Security in Tokyo to review key areas of collaboration. The discussions highlighted shared priorities in strengthening economic resilience, advancing cooperation in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, and enhancing cultural and people-to-people connections.
The engagement builds on the broader momentum in India-Japan relations following the recent India-Japan Strategic Dialogue held in New Delhi. The dialogue reviewed progress across multiple sectors, including economic cooperation, maritime security, supply chain resilience, critical minerals, technology partnerships, and multilateral coordination, reflecting the depth and diversity of the bilateral relationship.
Leaders on both sides have emphasised that the India-Japan partnership continues to move on an upward trajectory, driven by shared democratic values and converging strategic interests. Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly in promoting stability, openness, and rules-based order, remains a central pillar of the relationship.
Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi also held discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during which both leaders reiterated that India and Japan are natural partners with aligned long-term strategic goals. The talks focused on deepening collaboration in areas such as investment, innovation, security, and people-to-people exchanges, with artificial intelligence identified as a key growth driver for future cooperation.
Both countries agreed to further energise bilateral exchanges as they approach the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. With a shared vision for the next decade, India and Japan aim to elevate their Special Strategic and Global Partnership to new heights, strengthening cooperation across economic, technological, and cultural domains while contributing to regional and global stability.
