Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the Indian para-athletes for their outstanding performance at the Paralympic Games in Paris, where they secured a record 29 medals, the highest ever for the country at these Games. In a heartfelt message on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister celebrated their “unwavering dedication and indomitable spirit.”
Describing the 2024 Paralympics as both “special and historical,” Modi expressed India’s immense pride in the achievements of its athletes. He highlighted that this remarkable performance, comprising seven gold, nine silver, and thirteen bronze medals, surpasses all previous records since India’s debut at the Paralympic Games.
Modi also acknowledged the profound impact of their achievements, noting that their performances have not only delivered unforgettable moments but also inspired future generations of athletes.
The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games concluded on Sunday evening with a grand closing ceremony at the Stade de France, attended by around 64,000 spectators and over 8,500 athletes and their support staff. This year’s success follows India’s first Paralympic medal, won by Murlikant Petkar in swimming during the 1972 Games. Before this year’s event, India had accumulated a total of 31 medals across twelve Paralympic Games.
